The room was dark except for the small cracks of light coming through the ragged mini blinds. It was enough illumination to make out the silhouette, a rather large silhouette, presumably of a woman as she raised and lowered her body in rhythm, grunting on the descent. Her grunts of passion turned to moans and sighs as she began breathing harder and the speed of her gyrations increased but suddenly a male voice screams out.
"Get the fuck off me!"
With two hands the man underneath shoved the large woman backwards and she took a thunderous tumble off the foot of the bed. A thin tattoo covered arm reaches out and flips on a bedside lamp. Eli Hix sat up in bed pulling the sheet up to his waist. A hand came from the floor towards the foot off the bed but Eli kicked it away.
Eli Hix: Stay down there.
She begins to sob.
Eli Hix: Oh Jane, I think it's time we discuss other living arrangements.
Her raspy pack a day smoker voice trembles with emotion as she responds.
Jane: But… but… why? Where will you go Charlie.
Eli Hix: DON'T CALL ME THAT! Only she is allowed to call me that from now on.
Frightened by his outburst she cries even harder.
Jane: We've...we've been together for so long. I care about you Cha… ElI.
Eli Hix: Together? We were never together. I used you after YOU helped make me the monster I am. You took advantage…
As the anger grows in him he slides his legs over the edge of the bed and into a pair of cotton pants. He stands and walks to the foot of the bed looking down at her as she pulls a towel over her to cover as much of her naked body as she could. Her salt and pepper, mostly salt, bob cut hair was matted with sweat and her Dollar General mascara had run down her saggy jowls. He just stares at her for a few seconds before without any warning kicking her in the face, her head bouncing against the floor. She bellows in agony.
Jane: Oh God, why? Why would you do that? It hurts.
He smiles now, a sick twisted smile and his voice grows calmer.
Eli Hix: It'll be over soon. Where was I? Oh that's right, reminding you of what you did to me that is causing me to do this to you. I was 14 years old when I got sent to live with the Martin family. Your typical white picket fence All American Mom and Dad with their two precious children wanted to start taking in fosters to feel better about Dad's drinking problem and Mom's infidelity. They had no idea when the mentally disturbed, extremely fragile 14 year old boy they took in was being manipulated into having sex with a 54 year old cafeteria worker at the local high school. You took what little bit of innocence I had left and for ten years pretended you were protecting me but what I really needed protection from was you.
He sits down by her and brushes her hair away from her eyes so she can see the emptiness in his as he pulls a pair of steel toe work boots from under the bed and starts putting them on.
Eli Hix: You know Jane it's people like me that get the bad reputations but it's the ones like you, the ones that cast this air of being a model citizen who's worked the same job for 33 years putting food on the plates of children with a smile on your face when deep down you're just looking for your next victim. I don't know how many there were before me, or why I was the one you chose to keep around but you wanna know what one thing is I can promise?
He stands up over her as she barely gets her answer out through tightly clenched teeth.
Jane: What?
He chuckles deep from within his being.
Eli Hix: I'm so glad you asked! The thing I can promise is that I'll be the last.
The scene goes dark as what can only be described as the sound you would get if you stomped a ripe watermelon is heard. The final sound is the voice of Eli Hix.
Eli Hix: Goodbye, Lunch Lady.
